Even as a grammar school student he fell in love with the beauty of theatre and film. He began making short films that won numerous awards at domestic and international film shows. He was a founding member of the award-winning theatre company Geisslers Hofcomoedianten, where he worked as an author, dramaturg, actor and producer.
He has worked in managerial positions at the Czech Radio Foundation, the Dlouhá Theatre, PONEC Theatre, CIRQUEON - Centre for New Circus and others. In 2005, he joined the Prague City Theatres as business director and production manager.
Since 2016 he has worked as a television director, mainly on programmes for CT, but also for commercial television. In 2017 he made his debut as a film director with the feature documentary film Sama. Together with his long-time friend Luba Skořepová, he made an intimate portrait of the departed actress, in which he managed to capture old age in its raw form. The film was positively received by audiences and critics alike. It was presented at festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad, where it won numerous awards and was nominated for the Czech Film Critics' Award for the best documentary.
He currently has two film projects in development or production, including his debut feature film "Mosquito in the Room". Otakar Faifr is also the author of several plays, theatre concepts and themes. His first theatrical play produced was "Kisses". The original cabaret inspired by baroque love poetry and contemporary partner life was first performed at the ABC Theatre in 2013.
