About the inscenation
Deep Purple is considered by many to be the most innovative and successful rock band of all time, and also an inimitable band. But 7 years ago, that inimitability took a hit when an all-female European band emerged to emulate Deep Purple’s charm with a vibrant and unbridled female presence. Eliana Cargnelutti, a leader and guitarist from Udine near Venice, came up with the idea of an all-female Deep Purple tribute band and had a clear idea of the musicians she needed to turn her glowing vision into a musical reality. Thus the energetic Strange Kind Of Women formation was born, featuring Eliana Corgnelutti on guitar, Milan-based vocalist Alteria (Virgin Radio), bassist Paola Zadra, France-based Hammond organist Margherita Gruden and the brilliant drummer Chiara Cotugno.
The band Strange Kind of Women (SKOW), whose name was inspired by one of Deep Purple’s most famous songs, made their live debut in January 2019 and within a few months were receiving many requests to perform around the world. Soon came the biggest honour of 2019 when Ian Paice – Deep Purple’s legendary drummer and the last remaining founding member of the band – appeared on stage with SKOW and spoke highly of Strange Kind of Women afterwards, announcing, “They’re really fun to play with. They really do a great job, have a great sound and give it their all. I’ve really enjoyed playing with them.
The concerts in Prague and Brno will feature Deep Purple’s most famous hits such as Child In Time, Smoke On The Water, Strange Kind Of Woman, Highway Star, Space Truckin’, all performed with a bombastic, dynamic sound that matches the original from over 50 years ago. Their two-hour set includes other songs from the Ian Gillan era, such as Speed King and Into the Fire, and classics from a later era, such as Lay Down Stay Down, Mistreated and the electrifying Burn.
