Do you like the original Cuban music made famous by the film Buena Vista Social Club? Buena Vista Social Club was a Havana social membership club known for its dancing and music activities. In the 1940s, it was a meeting place for Cuban musicians and in 1996, more than 50 years after its closure due to the Cuban Revolution, it inspired American guitarist and
producer Ry Cooder, British producer Nick Gold and Havana musician Juan de Marcos González to undertake a project to record forgotten Cuban musicians, some of whom performed at the club in its heyday. The music album, entitled Buena Vista Social Club, was not only a huge commercial success, supported by a film documentary by German director Wim Wenders, but also won a Grammy Award in the “Best
Tropical Latin Performance”. The name Buena Vista Social Club then became an umbrella for the loose formation of Cuban musicians, as well as for a number of solo projects of individual members, such as
Compay Segundo, Rubén González, Ibrahim Ferrer, Omara Portuondo and others. In Cuba, there were a number of different communities, called Cabildo, whose origins date back to the Spanish
colonization.

In the 1930s and 1940s, prominent musicians, such as bass player Cachao López and bandleader Arsenio Rodríguez, worked at the Buena Vista club. Rubén González, who also performed on the recordings of the revived Buena Vista Social Club, characterized this period as a time of real musical life in Cuba, when there was not much money to be made, but everyone played because they really wanted to. It was also the time of the jazz-influenced mambo, charanga and dance forms like pachanga and cha-cha-cha. There was also the development of Afro-Cuban musical styles such as rumba and son, from which son montuno developed with the contribution of Arsenio Rodríguez (using other instruments).

Visitors can expect a 1.5 hour carnival of Cuban music in all its forms. The Pasión De Buena Vista music and dance show has already been seen by 600,000 spectators in 35 different countries for more than 600 performances. A 15-member ensemble will take the stage with outstanding singers Felicita-Ethel Frias Pernia, Alfredo Montero-Mojena and José Guillermo Puebla Brizuela. Dancing is provided by the famous El Grupo De Bailar dance troupe, dancing in more than 150 colorful costumes. The concert is accompanied by an elaborate light show.
