The French chanson is a phenomenon that has been one of the pillars of modern musical culture since the middle of the last century. Songs full of beautiful melodies and usually poetic lyrics continue to evoke great emotions. On December 16, 2023 in the Hybernia Theatre in Prague and on December 17 in Sono Centre in Brno, the audience will have the possibility to remind of the 60th anniversary of the death of Edith Piaf – a woman whose position as the queen of chanson is undoubtedly eternal. During these two nights in December, the actors of the highly successful project Piaf! The Show.

L’Accordéoniste, La vie en rose, Hymne á l’amour, Padam…Padam…, Milord, Non, je ne regrette rien – all these songs by Edith Piaf are jewels of 20th century music and the foundations of the chanson tradition. They will come alive in the performance thanks to the respected French singer Nathalie Lermitte.

The singer will be accompanied by a quartet of Parisian musicians and an inventively used projections of photographs of Edith Piaf. The first part of the two-part show will give the audience the atmosphere of Montmartre. This legendary bohemian district, where music, art and beauty met the semi-world of alcohol, prostitutes and drugs in its vibrant daily and nightly life, undoubtedly influenced the life and songs of the Parisian “sparrowman”. The second part of the performance features Edith in her post-war glory days, when the Paris Olympia and many other European venues were bursting at the seams during her concerts.

At the birth of Piaf’s narrative show! The Piaf is produced by Gil Marsalla’s Directo Productions team, which has already produced several pieces in the Czech Republic, e.g. Paris The Show, Edith The Show or most recently Formidable Aznavour. “Our aim is to bring French music and the personality of Edith Piaf closer to the younger generation. To the older generation, we would like to let her reminisce about the Parisian sparrow,” he says of Piaf! The producer of the show is Gil Marsalla.
